On Friday 1st August Haringey Chief Executive Dr Ita O’Donovan and Cllr Nilgun Canver, Cabinet member for enforcement and safer communities, visited the site of the new mortuary in Church Lane Tottenham to ‘Top out’ the new structure as it reached it’s highest point.
This new mortuary is unique as it has been built underground to ensure the minimum of disruption to the conservation area in which it is situated.
Whilst the clinical parts at the new mortuary will be underground the existing Lodge cottage will provide an area for viewing and identification. The new mortuary will also provide a forensic facility for the coroner and police to use when the most serious cases are being investigated.
This £2.6m, 60 week scheme will have a number of environmental features, including a green roof and will be completed and ready for occupation by the end of 2008.
Also in attendance on the day were John Moore and Teresa Taylor Directors of Mulalley, representatives from the Government Office for London, the Coroners office, Mulalley Site Team, Andy Morgan from TP Bennett Architects together with consultants and the staff who will be working at the facility in 2009.
