Basildon apprentices celebrate success

Mulalley is delighted to announce that apprentices taken on at their Basildon site in 2013 have now received their multi-trade level 2 certificates. Mulalley working in partnership with PROCAT and Basildon Council developed this bespoke course to give the apprentices specific training in skills such as plumbing, tiling and decorating – the skill set needed for the type of work Mulalley undertakes.

Offering a friendly and supportive environment, the Mulalley apprentices went from strength to strength over the two year scheme. The apprentices attended PROCAT one day a week and then applied classroom learning to the site environment for four days each week. Mulalley regularly placed the apprentices with different trades to enhance and refine their skill set.

The apprentices also gave back to the community during their time working at Mulalley by undertaking various community projects including fitting new kitchens at the Laindon Community Centre and the Poppy Pavilion Memorial Park Café in Wickford.

One of the apprentices, Charlie Hastings, was full of praise for the scheme: “If you work hard and show your loyalty, you’ve got more of a chance of achieving a job at the end of an apprenticeship – not to mention the skills you learn along the way.”

Bruce Benson, Mulalley Operations Director said: “It has been fantastic to see these apprentices flourish in the last two years. I am very proud of this scheme and the apprentices who are now skilled, trained and have gone on to find full time employment in the industry.”

Mulalley is the sole contractor on Basildon Borough Council’s internal Decent Homes Programme, delivering £28 million improvement works to half of its housing stock.
