Mulalley mascot Safe Sammy visited children at Westbourne Primary School as they are currently carrying out external works to Chaucer House which is in close proximity to the school.
Safe Sammy spoke to a group of 7 and 8 year olds about the construction industry and the dangers of building sites as well as the safety precautions all operatives take to stay safe. The children then had the chance to try on hard hats, high visibility jackets and goggles and ask questions.
Safe Sammy also announced that Mulalley would be running a “design a safety poster” competition. The students were given a week to design a poster based on the safety talk given. It was tough to pick the winner but Zahra won receiving an art set for her efforts. As it was so difficult to choose a winner, Safe Sammy decided to display all the posters on the site hoarding of Chaucer House.
Teacher Julie Craig said: “The children had a fabulous time – especially the interactive ‘trying on’ session, as well as the opportunity to ask questions, thank you.”
Nikki Fahy, Project Manager at Sutton Housing Partnership, commented: “Health and Safety on site is a priority for us, so projects like this help to educate children in a fun and interactive way.”
Mulalley Operations Director Colin Watson said: “We are carrying out works in Sutton and this was a wonderful opportunity to develop the childrens’ awareness and knowledge of the construction industry.”
Mulalley has been working with Sutton Housing Partnership for over four years transforming the external facades of Sutton homes on the £30m external repairs and decoration framework.
