Ashburton Hall opened by Mayor of Croydon

July saw Ashburton Park in Croydon at the centre of a day of festivities. The Mayor of Croydon, Councillor Toni Letts OBE, unveiled a plaque at the newly refurbished former convent and library and then enjoyed a tour of the building. There were also marquees and stalls providing music, entertainment and family fun. Mulalley provided refreshments for the visiting councillors and MPs, and face painting for residents of all ages.

A competition to name the former library was held, with more than 40 suggestions submitted. The winning entry was “Ashburton Hall” with some of the other entries being used to name the rooms inside the building.

With the refurbishment of the existing building complete, Mulalley can turn their attention to completing the new extension which will house a cafeteria.

Councillor Letts said: “The way Mulalley worked to bring new efficiency methods, security measures, and the way the team worked to ensure that feasible physical improvements could be done to preserve the way the original building was designed was outstanding.”

Sarah Jones MP said: “It was wonderful to be at the opening of the transformed Ashburton Library – now a truly beautiful place.”

Mulalley Operations Director Bruce Benson said: “This beautiful old building has been put to many uses in its life. The opening of Ashburton Hall marks a new chapter which will see it put to use as a community asset for the benefit of Croydon residents.”
